My name is Derek Chin- I am the Senior Process Engineer for Softrim, and this is our Softrim bud trimmer machine. Softrim is like a car wash for buds; you have scrubbers in there that are going to take the leaves off and clean up the buds.
Our Bud Trimmer Story
One of our owners, owned a cultivation facility and during their transition from hand trim to blade trim- they noticed a 30% yield loss in their high dollar flower and all existing blade trimmers were essentially grinding away their profits and decreasing the quality of their flower.
Bud Trimmer Function Insights
Our machine is completely bladeless- we use our patented Softrim belts that have fingers that break off the leaves off of the buds without harming any of the formations or any of the trichomes or terpines, in turn- leaving more Bud for a higher yield.
Single Piece Flow – Bud Trimmer Process
The Softrim machine is built around a single piece flow process. Single piece flow process, meaning that every bud gets treated the same through the machine in comparison to the batch trimmers that use random manufacturing, where the buds on the outer shell of the drum are going to get more trimmed compared to the ones in the middle.
With the single piece flow, our machine meters how much material it takes into the machine ensuring that only a single layer of buds goes through at at a time- ensuring a consistent output product.
Bud Trimmer Efficiency
We use minimal power; 120 volts- just a standard household outlet compared to other competitive trimmers that are using 220 volt outlets due to their larger blower motors that they have attached to their machines.
Intended Users for the Softrim Bud Trimmer
The type of cultivators that will benefit most from the Softrim machine are going to be larger scale cultivators. If you’re using a machine, you’re going to want to look into the Softrim machine, which will give you hand trim like quality with better aroma and higher yields.

Bud Trimmer Maintenance
There’s not a ton of maintenance that you need to do to keep the machine running at peak performance. The only thing that you need to make sure of, is that the machine is cleaned thoroughly. In addition to that, our machines have processed over 100,000lbs with over 100 strains without shutting down.
